Simple

pañcaitāni mahā-bāho
kāraṇāni nibodha me
sāṅkhye kṛtānte proktāni
siddhaye sarva-karmaṇām

‘Learn from Me, O Mighty-armed! these five causes for the fulfilment of all acts, declared in the sāṇkhya-system.’

Sankhyā = Sense or reasoning or ratiocination.

Sānkhye kṛitānte = The system composed according to the reasoning in the (or the sense of the) Vaidika-tenets, regarding the categorical nature of things.

These five causes are component factors, all combining to produce one work.

Learn from Me = Through Me, learn to contemplate on them.

This Vaidika-sense is verily that which conclusively regards, Paramātma alone as the Author, having jīvātma (soul), prāṇa (life), the senses, and the body, as His instruments, as evidenced by such passages as:

‘Who is seated in ātma, Who the Interior of ātma, Whom ātma knows not, of Whom ātma is body, Who rules in the interior of ātma, —He is thy Ātma, the Inner Guide, the Immortal.’[1. Bṛ: Up°: V-7-22: ‘Ya ātmani &c.’]

‘Penetrating the interior, the Director of creatures, the Soul of all.’[2. Tait Āraṇ: III-II-2.]
