nihathya dhArtharAshtrAn na: kA prIthi: syAj janArdhana |
pApam EvASrayEdh asmAn hathvaithAn AthathAyina: ||

janArdhana – Oh janArdhana!
nihathya – by killing
dhArtharAshtrAn – the sons of dhritharAshtra
na: – for us
kA prIthi: syAth – what pleasure is acquired?
AthathAyina: – being ones who are endeavouring to kill
EthAn – these (sons of dhritharAshtra)
hathvai – by killing
asmAn – us
pApam – sins
ASrayEth Eva – will surely accumulate

Oh janArdhan! what pleasure is acquired for us by killing the sons of dhritharAshtra? We being ones who are endeavouring to kill these (sons of dhritharAshtra), by killing them, we will surely accumulate sins.

Simple

yadyapyete na paśyanti
lobhopahata-cetasaḥ
kula-kṣaya-kṛtaṁ doṣaṁ
mitra-drohe ca pātakam

Hearts overrun with greed, it is thus they fail to perceive the danger entailed by extinction of their race, nor do they realize the treachery involved in the betrayal of friends.
