Simple

tasmān nārhā vayaṁ hantuṁ
dhārtarāṣṭrān sa-bāndhavān
sva-janaṁ hi kathaṁ hatvā
sukhinaḥ syāma mādhava

Hence ‘tis not meet for us to despatch the party of Dhṛitarāshtra along with our kinsmen. How, Mādhava1, can we be happy by slaying our own people?

nihatya dhārtarāṣṭrān naḥ
kā prītiḥ syāj janārdana
pāpam evāśrayed asmān
hatvaitān ātatāyinaḥ

Janārdana!1 What satisfaction derive we from laying low the hosts of Dhṛitarāshtra? To slaughter these enemies is to take sin to ourselves.
