purodhasAm cha mukhyam mAm vidhdhi pArtha bruhaspathim |
senAnInAm aham skandha: sarasAm asmi sAgara: ||

pArtha – Oh son of kunthI!
purOdhasAm – among the purOhithas (priests)
mukhyam – most important
bruhaspathim cha – the bruhaspathi [indhra’s chief priest]

sEnAnInAm – among the army-commanders
skandha: – (the best) skandha (subramaNya)
aham – I am
sarasAm – among the ponds (water reservoirs)

Oh pArtha! Know me as the most important bruhaspathi [indhra’s chief priest] among the purOhithas (priests); I am (the best) skandha (subramaNya) among army-commanders; I am (the best) ocean among the ponds (water reservoirs).

The chief of domestic priests, Bṛihaspati, I am. Senāni = Senāpati= commanders of armies. Of these I am Skanda3.

Of waters (or water-collections) I am the Ocean.

purodhasāṁ ca mukhyaṁ māṁ
viddhi pārtha bṛhaspatim
senānīnām ahaṁ skandaḥ
sarasām asmi sāgaraḥ
