śrotrādīnīndriyāṇy anye
saṁyamāgniṣu juhvati

‘Others sacrifice the senses: hearing etc., into
the Samyama1-fires.’

I.e., Others engage in endeavours to control the senses.

  1. Samyama is restraining or controlling. It is allegorised as fire, because the function of the sense is burnt up by it. Each sense requires a fire. Hence in the plural ‘fires’.
