The S\u0101\u1e45khya system counts the 24 <em>material<\/em> categories, and declares <em>\u0101tm\u0101<\/em> the 25th <em>spiritual<\/em> category. The term therefore means &#8216;the counting forth of spirit as distinct from matter,&#8217; as explained by Vij\u00f1\u0101na Bhikshu in his commentaries on S\u0101\u1e45khya S\u016btras. The same interpretation is given by \u015aankara in his commentaries on Bhagavad-g\u012bta and on Vishnu-Sahasran\u0101ma-bh\u0101shya.] has been told thee; as for that of <em>yoga<\/em>[3. Wisdom or Knowledge-Yoga is the method of works <em>without seeking reward<\/em> briefly named <em>Yoga<\/em>.], hear it, united with which thou shalt cast off <em>karma<\/em>-bondage.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1. <em>S\u0101\u1e45khya<\/em> is the understanding; and <em>s\u0101\u1e45khyam<\/em> is the <em>\u0101tm\u0101<\/em>-category which is apprehensible by the understanding or one\u2019s rational faculty. The <em>\u0101tm\u0101<\/em>-principle having to be understood, that understanding hath been given thee by which to know it, viz., beginning from:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Never at all was that I etc.\u2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/2-12-original\/\">Bh: Gi: II-12<\/a>) and ending with:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Therefore have thou no cause to grieve for any creature.\u2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/2-30-original\/\">Bh: Gi: II-30<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2. By the term <em>yoga<\/em> is meant that understanding or wisdom one has to acquire with regard to practising of works (<em>karm-\u0101nushth\u0101na<\/em>), which, founded on <em>\u0101tm\u0101<\/em>-knowledge (<em>s\u0101\u1e45khyam<\/em>), is the path to emancipation. This understanding is what is declared in:-\u2019(Fruit-seeking) karma is far inferior to wisdom-yoga[4. Wisdom or Knowledge-Yoga is the method of works <em>without seeking reward<\/em> briefly named <em>Yoga<\/em>.].\u2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/2-49-original\/\">Bh: Gi: ii-49<\/a>). Listen then to the wisdom that is contained in this yoga, which will be explained to thee.
