And therefore the flowery language is that which is pleasant to hear (like it is pleasant to look on a flower) -a mere superficial pleasure (an empty talk). This, the unwise or those of little understanding prate;- this, which has concern with the acquirement of pelf and power.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Veda-v\u0101da-rat\u0101h<\/em>: those who are addicted to those parts of the Vedas which treat of rewards like <em>Svarga<\/em> etc. (sensuous enjoyments).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>N-\u0101nyad astiti v\u0101dina\u1e25<\/em>: are those who contend that no higher goal exists surpassing <em>svarga<\/em> and similar states.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>K\u0101m\u0101tm\u0101na\u1e25<\/em>: are those whose minds are engrossed in appetites (material).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Svarga-par\u0101\u1e25<\/em>: are those whose attention is entirely given to Svarga, or who ever ruminate on thoughts of <em>Svarga<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Janma-karma-phala-prad\u0101m<\/em>: that which relates to acts which would bring about the fruit that would result again in re-birth. <em>Kriy\u0101-vi\u015besha-bahu\u1e37\u0101m<\/em>:- (passages) full of discussing the manifold rites or sacrificial acts (required to complete a Sacrifice), in the absence, because, of <em>tatva-j\u00f1\u0101na<\/em>=knowledge of (spiritual) Principles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All this talk is with reference to the goal, viz., of acquiring opulence and power.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To those then, whose hearts are captivated by pelf and power, and whose light of understanding is dimmed and dazed by the discourses on subjects relating to these aims, no certain resolve, as that which was mentioned (verse 41, <em>ante<\/em>), can enter their minds (<em>sam\u0101dhi<\/em>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Sam\u0101dhi<\/em> means mind, for the mind is that in which <em>\u0101tma-j\u00f1\u0101na<\/em> or knowledge of <em>\u0101tm\u0101<\/em> is collected, rested or gathered together (<em>sam\u0101dh\u012byate<\/em>). The sense is that at no time, to such people, comes that understanding or wisdom or conviction, which looks on work as the means to <em>moksha<\/em> (freedom from material connections),-work which may be performed, founded or based upon real definite convictions regarding <em>\u0101tm\u0101<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hence the <em>moksha<\/em>-aspirant ought not to connect himself with <em>k\u0101mya-karmas<\/em> (acts or rites which bring carnal desires).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why do the Vedas, then, which, more than a thousand mothers and fathers, are supposed to have much tender regard and concern in the matter of souls\u2019 Salvation, busy themselves in lengthily expounding such rites (works) as would produce but poor harvest (compared with <em>moksha<\/em>) and re-births following in their train? And how can such Veda-ordained rites be considered as fit to be rejected?
