See Commentary for an explanation of this term &#8230;] from out of the numerous Vedas.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Traigu\u1e47yam<\/em>: is the group of the three gunas[2. See <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/chapter-14\">Lect: XIV<\/a> for an exhaustive treatment of the <em>gun\u0101s<\/em>. These are the three main characteristics of matter which keep the world moving. <em>Satva<\/em> is the tendency to produce goodness, purity, etc., <em>Rajas<\/em> is the tendency to act in the world with passions; and <em>Tamas<\/em> is the tendency to sloth, evil, etc.] or qualities, viz., <em>satva<\/em>, <em>rajas<\/em> and <em>tamas<\/em>. The term <em>traigu\u1e47ya<\/em> indicates the persons who are severally characterized with, or prompted by, these qualities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the Vedas did not minister to each of these classes of men according to their tastes or predilections, by indicating the means for securing Svarga etc., then those, under the influence of <em>rajas<\/em> and <em>tamas<\/em>, would not only -(by their nature)- be opposed to the <em>satva<\/em>-fruit of moksha, but would be in ignorance of how to gain their own ends (of Svarga etc., for which only their present dispositions fit them). And then, full of desires, but not knowing the way, they would fall into tracks, fancying them to be the ways leading to their goal, and thus go to ruin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hence the Vedas contain all that the three-qualitied persons want. But \u2018be thou free of them. That is, thou are now having satva prevailing in thee, encourage and let it grow; but allow not the intermixture of all the triple qualities to prevail in thee, i.e., do not encourage the growth of the mixture.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Nir-dvandva\u1e25<\/em>: or one who is free from the \u2018pairs,\u2019 means, to be destitute of all that smacks of sams\u0101ra.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Nitya-satva-stha\u1e25<\/em>: or one ever wedded to <em>satva<\/em>, means, to be separated from the two gu\u1e47\u0101s (<em>rajas<\/em> and <em>tamas<\/em> of the mixture) and abiding in the ever growing <em>satva<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How is this to be done? By being, <em>nir-yoga-kshema\u1e25<\/em>, or one who does not concern himself about acquiring any other advantage external to that of realizing <em>\u0101tm\u0101<\/em>-nature and the means to effect that end. <em>Acquiring<\/em> or gathering to oneself external things (which did not belong to him before) is <em>yoga<\/em>. And <em>caring for<\/em> (or protecting) what has been acquired is <em>kshema<\/em>. Relinquishing both, \u2018become <em>\u0101tmav\u0101n<\/em>,\u2019 i.e., one who, ever, is in pursuit of finding out the true nature of <em>\u0101tm\u0101<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If thou dost conduct thyself thus, the predominance of <em>rajas<\/em> and <em>tamas<\/em> will cease; and <em>satva<\/em> will get uppermost.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not, also, that all that is treated of in the Vedas, is necessary for all.
