In whichever manner that wise person performs those actions, common people of the world also follow only that much.<\/p>\n<h3>Rendering based on ALkoNdavilli gOvindhAchArya swAmy\u2019s English translation of gIthA bhAshyam<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;What the wise man does, another does likewise;<br \/>\nwhat law he may make, the world follows it.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Considering from the stand-point that by one\u2019s acts the world is profitted, then he ought to act (i.e., act altruistically.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u015aresh\u1e6dha\u1e25<\/em>: is a wise man, a worthy man, a man of note and respectability; and is one well versed in \u015a\u0101stras[1. \u015a\u0101stra means laws, learning, and therefore spiritual laws or science embodied in the Vedas or S\u1e5butis, etc.]. Whatever such a man does, is imitated by all other men. It may be that it is generally known that a certain act is one which ought to be performed, yet all men wait to see how a good man, a leader of society, takes the initiative, and then they will do it, following suit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hence a man of special distinction or character ought always to show the example to the world, by first playing himself the part in all duties assigned to his caste (<em>var\u1e47a<\/em>[2. The four <em>var\u1e47as<\/em> are Br\u0101hma\u1e47a, Kshatriya, Vai\u015bya and \u015a\u016bdra.]) and order in life (<em>\u0101\u015brama<\/em>[3. The four \u0101\u015bramas are Brahmacharya (bachelor and student), G\u0101rhastya (married life), V\u0101naprastha (retired forest life) and Sany\u0101sa (monastic or ascetic life).]).
