II-2-12.<\/em>]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018He, the Spirit in the interior of the sun, of golden hue.\u2019[3. \u2018Ya esho ntar-\u0101ditye hiranmaya\u1e25 Purusha\u1e25.&#8217; <em>Chh: Up\u00b0 1-66<\/em>.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018That Spirit in it (the heart), Who is mind-pervaded (i.e., Whom a cleansed mind perceives), the Immortal, the Golden.\u2019[4. \u2018Tasminn-ayam Purusho manomayah, am\u1e5bito hira\u1e47maya\u1e25.\u2019 <em>Tait: Up: 1-6-1<\/em>.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018All the unwinking (<em>devas<\/em>), (or the winking=man etc.,) sprang from the lightning-like Spirit.\u2019[5. \u2018Sarvenimesh\u0101 jaj\u00f1ire vidyuta\u1e25 purush\u0101d-adhi.\u2019, <em>Tait: N\u0101r\u0101.<\/em> I-1-8.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018He of resplendent Form, the Firm-resolved, and Subtile-souled like space (\u0101k\u0101\u015ba).\u2019[6. \u2018Bh\u0101r\u016bpas sattya-sa\u00f1kalpa \u0101k\u0101\u015b-\u0100tm\u0101\u2019. <em>Chh: Up: III-14-2<\/em>.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018He is All-act, All-desire, All-odour, All-taste.\u2019[7. \u2018Sarva-karm\u0101 Sarva-k\u0101mas Sarva-gandhas Sarva-rasa\u1e25\u2019. <em>Chh: Up: III-14-2<\/em>.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Whose raiment is gold-colored.\u2019[8. \u2018M\u0101h\u0101rajanam v\u0101sa\u1e25.\u2019 <em>B\u1e5bi: Up: IV-3-6<\/em>.] etc., etc. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u0100tma-m\u0101y\u0101<\/em>=<em>\u0100tmiyay\u0101 m\u0101yay\u0101<\/em>=By My own native <em>M\u0101y\u0101<\/em> or will (or will-power).[9. \u2018Sarva-karm\u0101 Sarva-k\u0101mas Sarva-gandhas Sarva-rasa\u1e25\u2019. <em>Chh: Up: III-14-2<\/em>.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>M\u0101y\u0101<\/em> meaning will, knowledge, consciousness, intelligence or understanding is from the authority:\u2014 \u2018M\u0101y\u0101 vayunam j\u00f1\u0101nam\u2019 (<em>nighant<\/em>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Famous authors have used <em>m\u0101y\u0101<\/em> in the above sense, as for example:\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018By His intelligence (or omniscience=<em>m\u0101y\u0101<\/em>), He knows the \u2018goods\u2019 and \u2018bads\u2019 of His creatures.\u2019[10. \u2018M\u0101yay\u0101 satatam vetti pr\u0101n. in\u0101ncha\u015bubh\u0101\u015bubham\u2019. Also See <em>Ved\u0101nta-Tatva-S\u0101ra<\/em> (Benares Edition) on <em>M\u0101y\u0101<\/em> and <em>\u015a\u0101ndilya S\u016btras<\/em>.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018By My intelligence\u2019 or \u2018by My knowledge\u2019, means : \u2018by My <em>will<\/em> (<em>sankalpa<\/em>=resolve).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By My (free)-will, thus, I am born, but not laying aside My essential (godly) attributes of, <em>viz;<\/em> the being evil-Opposed, the being the Abode of Glorious Perfections, the being the Lord of all, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I take on forms as pertain to the <em>devas<\/em> (celestial beings), man (terrestrial creatures), and so on and manifest Myself as if I were of their nature, by My own free choice. It is this that is voiced in the \u015aruti:\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Being Unborn, He is (yet) born Multiform.,\u2019[11. Aj\u0101yam\u0101no bahudh\u0101 vij\u0101yate\u2019. (<em>Tait: \u0100ran: III-13<\/em>).] etc., meaning that Isvara incarnates in manifold ways as like the devas, like man etc., \u2014only so far is He in common with His creatures. As for taking birth it is, in His case, by free-will, whereas in the case of the creatures, it is impelled by <em>karma<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In declaring this sense, the previous verse, <em>viz<\/em>; \u2018 Many births have past for Me; for thee also, Arjuna!.
