Chapter 4<\/a><\/p>\n << Chapter 4 verse 27<\/a><\/p>\n Simple<\/a><\/p>\n dravya-yaj\u00f1\u0101s tapo-yaj\u00f1\u0101 ‘Some do wealth-sacrifices; some, tapas<\/em>-sacrifices; some yoga<\/em>-sacrifices; some, sv\u0101dhy\u0101ya<\/em>-sacrifices; and some yatis<\/em> of fixed resolve, go in for j\u00f1\u0101na<\/em>-sacrifices.’<\/span><\/p>\n Some few karma-yogis go in for wealth-sacrifices<\/em>; that is, they earn money in the right way, and devote the same to Divine-worship; others devoting it to charitable purposes; others performing Y\u0101gas[3. Y\u0101gas<\/em> are the great Sacrificial rites inculcated in the Vedas, such as a\u015bvamedha-y\u0101ga<\/em>, r\u0101ja s\u016bya-y\u0101ga<\/em>, garuda-chayana<\/em> etc.] and Homas[4. Homas<\/em> are Sacrifices in which consecrated fire is a sine qua non<\/em> in which offerings (food etc.,) are burnt.] therewith. All these come under wealth-sacrifices.<\/span><\/p>\n Others betake themselves to tapas-sacrifices<\/em>. Tapas<\/em> is austerity (or penance or mortification of the flesh). Its modes are known as K\u1e5bicchra, Ch\u0101ndr\u0101ya\u1e47a[5. Expiatory penances. See Manu XI-217, Hem\u0101dri and other Dharma-\u015a\u0101stras which give detailed rules. Tapas<\/em>, Rajendralal Mitra L.L.D., C. I.E., translates, as ‘religious austerity or self-denial’, p. 60. Yoga S\u016btras<\/em>.], fasting etc.<\/span><\/p>\n Others resort to yoga-sacrifices<\/em>. Yoga<\/em> here refers to a variety of karma-yoga, in agreement with the subject that is discussed here. Yoga means joining.
