Such person does not rejoice while attaining his dear (materialistic) objects\u00a0 and does not fear while attaining his unfavourable (materialistic) objects.<\/p>\n<h3>Rendering based on ALkoNdavilli gOvindhAchArya swAmy\u2019s English translation of gIthA bhAshyam<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;He shall not exult, attaining the \u2018agreeable,\u2019 nor grieve, encountering the \u2018disagreeable\u2019. The steady-willed, undeluded, <em>brahma<\/em>-knower, remains in <em>brahma<\/em> itself.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Agreeable\u2019 and \u2018disagreeable\u2019 things happen according to the body in which one may dwell, and according to the past karma-instincts. (These are accidents of embodied existence).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He who would scale the heights of wisdom, shall not evince joy or sorrow, when the \u2018agreeables (<em>priyam<\/em>) or the \u2018disagreeables\u2019 (<em>apriyam<\/em>) may happen, (respectively).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How is this possible? It is, if he is: <em>sthira-buddhi\u1e25<\/em>= steady-willed, or he who plants his will in the stable (<em>sthira<\/em>) \u0101tma. If he is: <em>a-samm\u016bdhah<\/em>. I.e, <em>moha<\/em> is the delusion or the confounding the stable \u0101tma with the unstable body. <em>Asamm\u016bdha\u1e25<\/em> is he who is free from such delusion. How is he to be this? If he is <em>brahma<\/em>-learned (<em>brahma-vit<\/em>) and <em>brahma<\/em>-stationed (<em>brahma\u1e47i sthita\u1e25<\/em>). That is, by learning or knowing what brahma (\u0101tma) is, from instruction, and to remain steadily practicing in <em>brahma<\/em> (i.e., constant spiritual culture).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tenor of the verse is this:\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From instruction received from truth-seers (<em>i.e.<\/em>, spiritual preceptors), one shall learn the exact nature of \u0101tma (<em>brahma-vit<\/em>). He shall then practice the same. He shall then abjure the \u0101tma-love which he places in the body, and employ himself in blissful contemplation of the would-be eternal \u0101tma-intercourse.
