{"id":2513,"date":"2016-11-24T19:36:31","date_gmt":"2016-11-24T19:36:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/?p=2513"},"modified":"2016-11-24T19:36:31","modified_gmt":"2016-11-24T19:36:31","slug":"6-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/6-1\/","title":{"rendered":"6.1 anASritha: karmapalam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><small>SrI:\u00a0 SrImathE SatakOpAya nama:\u00a0 SrImathE rAmAnujAya nama:\u00a0 SrImath varavaramunayE nama:<\/small><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chapter 6<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/6-1\">&lt;&lt; <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/5-29\/\">Chapter 5 verse 29<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>SlOkam \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/6-2-original\/\">Original<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>SrI bhagavAn uvAcha<br \/>\n<em>anASritha: karmapalam kAryam karma karOthi ya: |<\/em><br \/>\n<em> sa sanyAsI cha yOgI cha na niragnir na chAkriya: ||<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>word-by-word meaning  <\/h3>\n<p>karma palam &#8211; the result of karma (actions) such as svarga (heaven) etc<br \/>\nanASritha: &#8211; being not holding on to<br \/>\nkAryam (ithi) karma ya: karOthi &#8211; one who performs karma yOga exclusively with the intention of performing that practice [without any expectation]<br \/>\nsa: sanyAsI cha &#8211; he remains a gyAna yOga nishta (<span class=\"st\">practitioner<\/span>);<br \/>\n(sa:) yOgi cha &#8211; he also remains a karma yOga nishta (practitioner);<br \/>\n(sa:) na niragni: &#8211; neither he is aloof from karmas (actions) such as yagya etc which invoke fire<br \/>\n(sa:) na cha akriya: &#8211; nor he is exclusive gyAna nishta (one who is focussed on pursuit of knowledge exclusively without adequate actions)<\/p>\n<h3>Simple Translation  <\/h3>\n<p>One who performs karma yOga exclusively with the intention of performing that practice, not holding on to the result of karma (actions) such as svarga (heaven) etc, remains a gyAna yOga nishta (<span class=\"st\">practitioner<\/span>); he also remains a karma yOga nishta (practitioner); neither is he aloof from karmas (actions) such as yagya etc which invoke fire nor is he exclusive gyAna nishta (one who is focussed on pursuit of knowledge exclusively without adequate actions).<\/p>\n<h3>Rendering based on ALkoNdavilli gOvindhAchArya swAmy\u2019s English translation of gIthA bhAshyam<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SR\u012a BHAGAV\u0100N Continued:-<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;He is the <em>sanny\u0101si<\/em>, he is the <em>yogi<\/em>, who discharges work as duty, independent of its fruit; not he that is fire-less (<em>na niragni\u1e25<\/em>), not he that is act-less (<em>na-ch-\u0101kriya\u1e25<\/em>).&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Karma-yoga with all its constituents has so far been expounded. The rules for the practice of yoga or meditation to secure \u0101tma-vision, through J\u00f1\u0101na-yoga and Karma-yoga, will now be declared.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This verse is a short recapitulatory re-assertion of what has already been stated, viz., that (i) Karma-yoga is the immediate (or unaided) means (for \u0101tma-attainment); that (2) it has in it the wisdom-aspect; and that (3) Karma-yoga has for its aim yoga (meditation which precedes \u0101tma-vision).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Independently of the rewards of works, such as svarga etc., whosoever performs work as a duty, with no other idea than that it is worshipful service rendered to the Supreme Spirit, \u2014Who is in every way our Real Loving Friend,\u2014 he is the <em>sanny\u0101si<\/em> or the J\u00f1\u0101na-yogi; and he is the true <em>yogi<\/em> or Karma-yogi.
