See Introduction to <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/3\/\">Lect. III<\/a>; this verse is introductory to the 2nd Division of Bhagavad-gita, the Bhakti-yoga, Lectures (<a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/7\/\">VII<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/12\/\">XII<\/a>). See introduction to Lect: <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/12\/\">XII<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/12-2\/\">XII-2<\/a>.]&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The genitive case of the word <em>yogin\u0101m<\/em> has the force of the ablative case <em>yogibhya\u1e25<\/em>; <em>yogin\u0101m<\/em> thus meaning not of the yogis, but <em>beyond<\/em> the yogis. (The ablative case gives the sense that the yogi of this verse is not one <em>amongst<\/em> the four kinds of yogis described (in the twenty-ninth verse, ff. <em>ante<\/em>), but is the <em>fifth<\/em> above and beyond, and superior to, the <em>four<\/em> kinds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The description of the four kinds of the yogis is as contained in verse (<em>sarva-bh\u016btastham<\/em> etc.,):\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Perceives \u0100tma abiding in all beings\u2019 etc., (<a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/6-29\/\">vi-29<\/a>.) and following verses: (<a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/6-30\/\">vi-30<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/6-31\/\">31<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/6-32\/\">32<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the yogi referred to in this verse, does not fall as one <em>of<\/em> this four-fold classification, the genitive case has not the force of specifying a class among those already mentioned.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Api sarvesh\u0101m<\/em>=\u2018<em>and of all<\/em>\u2019, refers to those mentioned in verse forty-six[2. Mentioned as &#8220;forty-seven&#8221; in printed book.], viz the <em>tapasv\u012bs<\/em> etc. Likewise here, as of the word <em>yogin\u0101m<\/em>, the genetive case of the word <em>sarvesh\u0101m<\/em>, has the ablative force, for reasons the same as stated above; in this case meaning that this yogi (described in this verse and the following lectures, <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/7\/\">vii<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/12\/\">xii<\/a>, <em>viz<\/em>., the <em>bhakta<\/em>, the Lover of God) is greater than all the yog\u012bs (verses 29 to 32) and the <em>tapasv\u012bs<\/em> etc., (<a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/6-46\/\">verse 46<\/a>);<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In comparison with this yogi, they are all, by inferiority, to be grouped into one class. The comparison between him and them is as between the Mount of Meru[6. This is the golden mountain, according to the Pur\u0101\u1e47\u0101s, in the centre of Jambu-dv\u012bpa. Its height is eighty-four thousand yojanas (yojana=9 miles); its depth below the surface of the earth sixteen thousand; its diameter at the summit is thirty two thousand and at its base sixteen thousand.], and a handful of mustard seed. Between one seed and another, differences certainly do exist, but that difference is impalpable when compared with that which subsists between the seed and the huge Mount Meru[7. Its height is eighty-four thousand yojanas (yojana=9 miles); its depth below the surface of the earth sixteen thousand; its diameter at the summit is thirty two thousand and at its base sixteen thousand.].<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018The inmost <em>manas<\/em> immersed in Me\u2019 means: that out of his overflowing love for Me, all his <em>manas<\/em> (\u2018heart, life and soul\u2019) is merged in Me. His nature is thus unique, singling him out from all other kinds of yog\u012bs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Antar-\u0101tma<\/em>,=\u2018inmost manas\u2019 is so called from its being the receptacle of all internal and external experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So drunk in (God-)Love is this yogi, that he is unable, without Me, to support his very existence. In this way he is merged in Me as one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u015araddh\u0101v\u0101n<\/em>: is one full of earnestness or faith. The earnestness in worshipping Me, comes from the inordinate desire which impels him to find Me, for, the intensity of yearning Love that he has for Me is such that he is unable to tolerate a moment\u2019s separation from Me,\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Me<\/em>, to Whom, the emanations, sustentations, and immanations of the Kosmos, abounding in objects of enjoyment, enjoyers, and enjoying instruments \u2014<em>viz<\/em>; body and senses\u2014 are but sport.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Me<\/em>, the Treasury of the countless groups of glorious attributes, \u2014antidotal to evil,\u2014 such as wisdom or omniscience (<em>j\u00f1\u0101na<\/em>)[7. j\u00f1\u0101na=\u2018of Himself, He, all things, in every respect, and at every moment, cognizes directly.\u2019], power (<em>bala<\/em>)[8. Bal-ai\u015bvarya = \u2018All things thus cognized, He ever supports and controls.\u2019], dominion (<em>ai\u015bvarya<\/em>)[9. Bal-ai\u015bvarya = \u2018All things thus cognized, He ever supports and controls.\u2019], energy (<em>v\u012brya<\/em>)[10. \u2018Nevertheless, is never exhausted.\u2019] capacity (<em>\u015bakti<\/em>)[11. \u015aakti=\u2018Works miracles, or transcends our very conception.\u2019], lustre (tejas)[12. <em>Tejas<\/em>=Overpowers all, Himself being unaided or undaunted, by anything. Sri P\u0101rthas\u0101rathi Aiyang\u0101r&#8217;s English Trans: of Tatva-traya.] etc., etc.,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Me<\/em>, whose Divine Figure is a synthesis of every thing beautiful, becoming Me, inconceivable, transcendent, mirific, imperishable, invulnerable, super-excellent etc., \u2014such as radiance (<em>aujjvalya<\/em>), loveliness (<em>soundarya<\/em>), fragrance (<em>sau-gandhya<\/em>), softness (<em>sau-kum\u0101rya<\/em>), grace (<em>l\u0101va\u1e47ya<\/em>), and youth (<em>yauvana<\/em>);<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Me<\/em>, in essence and in attributes, beyond mind to conceive, and speech to extol;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Me<\/em>, the unbounded majestic Ocean of compassion (<em>k\u0101ru\u1e47ya<\/em>), condescension (<em>sau\u015b\u012blya<\/em>), love (<em>v\u0101tsalya<\/em>), bounty (<em>aud\u0101rya<\/em>) etc.,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Me<\/em>, the Saviour or the Impartial Asylum of all the worlds;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Me<\/em>, the Reliever of the distresses of my supplicants;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Me<\/em>, the sole Object of passionate Love for My postulants;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Me<\/em>, Who become theophanous, or become ocularly demonstrable to all men;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Me<\/em>, incarnate in Vasudev\u0101\u2019s house, without laying aside my true (Divine) nature (on that account);<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Me<\/em>, illumining all the Universe by My infinitely sublime glory;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Me<\/em>, the Promoter of the well-being of, or the Filler with gladness, the whole Universe, by the resplendent glory of My Divine Self;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whoso meditates on Me in this-wise, I hold him to be the nearest to Me, the most estimable to Me above all others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because, I am Omnipresent and Omniscient in Eternity, I know all this : (that what I say is the Truth).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OM TAT SAT<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thus closes The Sixth Discourse,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">named <em>Abhy\u0101sa-Yoga<\/em>, or the Practice of Meditation,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with <em>\u015ari R\u0101m\u0101nuja\u2019s<\/em> commentary thereon,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the colloquy between <em>\u015ari K\u1e5bish\u1e47a<\/em> and <em>Arjuna<\/em>,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the Science of Yoga,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the Divine knowledge of the <em>Upanishads<\/em>,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or the Chants of <em> \u015ar\u012b Bhagav\u0101n<\/em>,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <em>Bhagavad G\u012bt\u0101<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/7\">&gt;&gt;
