This insentient material nature is inferior; know that the [spiritual] matter called as jIva (sentient entity) which is different from and superior to the material nature, is mine; it is by this jIva [i.e., collection of jIvAthmAs] that this universe is sustained.<\/p>\n<h3>Rendering based on ALkoNdavilli gOvindhAchArya swAmy\u2019s English translation of gIthA bhAshyam<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;But this (Nature) is inferior; know My other Nature, superior (than that), \u2014the j\u012bva (=soul), \u2014by which, O Strong-armed! this Universe is sustained.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But this (<em>i.e.<\/em>, matter-stuff) is My lower Nature. Know My other higher Nature which is different from that insentient Nature, the latter but contributing to the enjoyment of My other Nature, the sentient beings. This other higher Nature is the living Nature, forming a distinct class from that of the lower lifeless Nature. This higher Nature stands to the lower Nature in the relation of the <em>enjoyer<\/em> (to the <em>enjoyed<\/em>), and the higher Nature is further characterized by intelligence (absent in the lower Nature). (As the lower Nature [matter] is <em>of Me<\/em>) so also is the higher Nature [soul] <em>of Me<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By this higher Nature, all this inert or non-intelligent Nature, \u2014the Universe\u2014 is upheld.[2. Verses 4 and 5 thus represent the <em>Achit<\/em> and the <em>Chit<\/em>, or the Objective and the Subjective aspects of \u012a\u015bvara (God). <em>Vide<\/em>, footnote from <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/2-12\/\">2.12<\/a>: \u012a\u015bvara is the term which, in preference, R\u0101m\u0101nuja uses to denote God, in all his philosophical discussions; <em>Chit<\/em> being used for individual soul, meaning &#8216;sentient or intelligent or conscious&#8217;, and <em>A-chit<\/em> for matter or that which is <em>not<\/em> sentient, <em>not<\/em> intelligent, <em>not<\/em> conscious&#8217;. <em>A-chit<\/em>, <em>chit<\/em> and <em>\u012a\u015bvara<\/em> thus constitute the <em>tatva-traya<\/em>, or the Three Verieties, or the Three necessary Postulates of Existence. Also, <em>\u012a\u015bvara<\/em> or the <em>all-perfect Lord<\/em> is Parabrahm Itself in the Vi\u015bhis\u1e25t\u0101dvaita literature, not the <em>Lower Brahm<\/em> of the Advaita as distinguished from the <em>Higher Brahm<\/em>. The Ved\u0101nta-S\u016btras make no such distinctions (vide: G.
