puNya karmANAm yEshAm thu janAnAm – those souls who have performed abundance of virtuous acts
\npApam antha gatham – when [their] sins (explained in previous SlOkam) come to an end
\nthE – they
\ndhvandhva mOha nirmukthA: – being slowly relieved from the bewilderment of twin effects such as happiness and sorrow (according to their virtues)
\ndhrudavruthA: – with firm vow (to attain worldly wealth, self enjoyment or service to bhagavAn according to their virtues)
\nmAm bhajanthE – start worshipping me (to attain those results)<\/p>\n

Simple Translation <\/h3>\n

Those souls who have performed abundance of virtuous acts, when [their] sins (explained in previous SlOkam) come to an end, being slowly relieved from the bewilderment of twin effects such as happiness and sorrow (according to their virtues), with firm vow (to attain worldly wealth, self enjoyment or service to bhagavAn according to their virtues), [they] start worshipping me (to attain those results).<\/p>\n

‘But when sins of men of virtuous deeds have come to an end, then do they have their full discharge from the witchery of “the pairs” and with a will resolute, worship Me.’<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Men of virtue\u2019 are those in whose case sins have dissolved away, \u2014sins descended from an immemorial past, and obstructing them from becoming God-ward\u2014 sins which had been the cause of his longings and aversions. Exhausted become these sins by virtue of high merits acquired during many lives. Determined by the various degrees of such merit, men take shelter under Me, and are delivered from the gu\u1e47a-sated beguilements. They make a firm resolve to devote themselves to My worship, seeking either:-<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Great fortune (riches, power etc.,) (ai\u015bvary-arthi<\/em>)[1. This includes the aspirants, \u0101rta<\/em> and art\u1e25\u0101rthi<\/em> (vide, verse 16<\/a>, ante<\/em>).]<\/li>\n
  2. Enfranchisement from dotage<\/a> and death (kaivaly\u0101rthi<\/em>[2. This is the class: jijn\u0101su<\/em> (op: cit).])<\/li>\n
  3. Myself, as their Goal. (moksha-\u0101rthi<\/em>[3. This the class: j\u00f1\u0101ni<\/em> (op: cit). Footnotes also under verse 16<\/a>.])<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
