OM or AUM is the sign, symbol or appellation of the Indestructible \u2014(<em>Akshara<\/em>). OM being the sign, the indicator, I am the Indicated, Who is to be profoundly meditated upon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whoso, holding up the pr\u0101\u1e47a (life-breath) in the head, departs from the body, in the manner indicated, goes to the Exalted State.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Param\u0101m gatim<\/em> (the Exalted State) is the \u0101tma itself, as in essence contra-distinguished from matter, and comparable with My state, from which there is no return.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is this state (of self-realization) that is discoursed on in verses:\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018He, who, when all beings perish, doth not perish\u2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/8-20-original\/\"><em>Bh: G\u012b:<\/em> VIII-20<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018It was described as Avyakta, Akshara; this, they say, is the Exalted State\u2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/8-21-original\/\"><em>Bh: G\u012b:<\/em> VIII-21<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The modes of Divine Meditation suited to those who are fortune-seekers (<em>ai\u015bvary-\u0101rthina\u1e25<\/em>), and to those who aspire after their self or soul (<em>kaivaly-\u0101rthina\u1e25<\/em>) have thus been declared.
