I am the one who holds all creatures and yet not held by the creatures [like I hold them]; my sankalpam only is the reason for their existence, sustenance and control.<\/p>\n<h4>Additional notes<\/h4>\n<p>When bhagavAn says &#8220;they are not in me&#8221;, it does not mean that the entities are not in him. Of course bhagavAn is the resting place for everyone. But he is saying &#8220;unlike I who am present in the entities as the one who sustains them, the entities do not sustain me while resting on me&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h3>Rendering based on ALkoNdavilli gOvindhAchArya swAmy\u2019s English translation of gIthA bhAshyam<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;Behold My Divine Power that while beings are not upheld by Me, I am yet the Upholder of all beings ; and yet am I not seated in them. By my will I hold all.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All this Kosmos constituted of Sentient and Insentient creatures, is permeated by Me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>By My subtle Form<\/em>, =insensible or indiscernible (<em>avyakta<\/em>) Form. This means : &#8216;My nature as the unrevealed presence, as the internal (hidden) Ruler (<em>antary\u0101min<\/em>)&#8217;. In spirit, thus, I pervade. I do so in My relation to the Universe as the Sovereign Lord (<em>\u015aeshi<\/em>)[3. <em>Vide<\/em>, note 3, <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/8-original\/\">Chapter 8 Proem<\/a>. The word <em>\u015aeshi<\/em> is also rendered as Appropriator and Disposer. The sense conveyed by the <em>\u015aesha-\u015aesh\u012b<\/em> relation is<br \/>\nas in <em>Cor<\/em>: 5-15: &#8216;they which live should not live unto themselves, but unto Him&#8217;.], and for sustaining and ordering it, as declared in the \u015aruti\u2014(<em>Antary\u0101mi-Br\u0101hma\u1e47a<\/em>):\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018(He) Who sits in earth, &#8230;., Whom earth knows not,\u2019[4. <em>Bri: Up:<\/em> v-7-3 (Ya\u1e25 prithivy\u0101m tish\u1e6dnan etc).]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018(He) Who sits in \u0101tm\u0101, &#8230;., Whom \u0101tm\u0101 knows not\u2019[5. <em>Bri: Up:<\/em> v-7-22, K\u0101nv\u0101p\u0101\u1e6dha (Ya \u0101tmani tish\u1e6dhan etc.],<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hence all existences have their Rest in Me, in My aspect as the Internal Ruler. That I am the Internal Ruler, is expressed in the same <em>Antary\u0101mi-Br\u0101hma\u1e47a<\/em>[6. Bri: Up\u00b0: V-7, goes by the name of <em>Antary\u0101mi-Br\u0101hma\u1e47a<\/em>] thus:\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018(He) to whom earth is body, Who, in the interior of earth, rules\u2019[7. <em>Bri: Up:<\/em> V-7-3, (Yasya p\u1e5bithiv\u012b \u015bar\u012bram etc.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018(He), to Whom \u0101tma is body, Who, in the interior of \u0101tma, rules.\u2019[8. <em>Bri: Up:<\/em> V-7-22, (Yasy-\u0101tm\u0101 \u015bar\u012bram etc.].<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By saying \u2018body\u2019 and \u2018Ruler\u2019, the subjection of all things to His rule, and all things deriving their existence from Him is established. In book: &#8220;am no held by&#8221; which seems to be a printing error.] them in the manner that a vessel upholds water, but that I support all existence by My will.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just fancy this wonderful Divine mode of Mine (<em>yogam ai\u015bvaram<\/em>). The wonder or Divine Power is that my way is so unique and singular, and that it does not find comparison elsewhere.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is this yoga (wonderful Mode or Power)?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u2018I am the Upholder of all beings, and yet I am not seated in them. By My will I hold all\u2019<\/em>:\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I am the Supporter of all beings (<em>bh\u016bta-bh\u1e5bit<\/em>)[11. The 6th name of God. Cp: <em>Taittir\u012bya: N\u0101r\u0101ya\u1e47am:<\/em> I-2; <em>Kaushitaki Up\u00b0:<\/em> III-9.] and I derive no kind of benefit from them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Mam-\u0101tma<\/em>=My mind= My will. My abundance of will (<em>manomaya\u1e25<\/em>) alone is the Cause of existence, the Prop of existences, and What establishes an order for existences (<em>Bh\u016bta-bh\u0101vana\u1e25<\/em>).[12.
