Kshetraj\u1e47\u0101 is the soul, the knower, the conscious dweller or he who enjoys the field (<em>Kshetra<\/em>)=<em>Informer<\/em>, the contained.]; so say the savants versed (in spiritual love.)&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>This, the body<\/em>: That, in correlated connection with which, the experiencer, -soul,- thinks, \u2018I am Deva\u2019, \u2018I am man \u2019, \u2018I am <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/corpulent#Adjective\">corpulent<\/a>\u2019, \u2018I am slender\u2019 etc; that which is distinct from the experiencing soul; and that which the wise who know what bodies are, assert as the field (<em>kshetra<\/em>)[3. <em>Kshetra<\/em>=matter, body, habitat, field, place or that which is enjoyed. = <em>Capacity<\/em>, the container.] for soul\u2019s enjoyment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And him \u2014who <em>knows<\/em> it (body) as composed of members (or parts <em>i.e.<\/em>, divisible), or it, as an aggregated whole; who <em>knows<\/em> it in the manner of the statement: \u2018<em>I<\/em> know <em>this<\/em> (the body)\u2019; who is thus the <em>cognizer<\/em> as contradistinguished from the <em>cognized<\/em> (or cognoscible) which he <em>cognizes<\/em> \u2014the wise who know what soul is, assert as the \u2018<em>knower of the field<\/em>\u2019 (<em>kshetra-j\u00f1a<\/em>[4. Kshetraj\u1e47\u0101 is the soul, the knower, the conscious dweller or he who enjoys the field (<em>Kshetra<\/em>)=<em>Informer<\/em>, the contained].)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It may be said that when cognition arises of objects like a pot etc, external to (ones\u2019 own) body, the cognition is of the form \u2018I who am Deva, or I who am man, cognize the pot etc\u2019 implying that the cognizer is the cognizer, the soul, as <em>correlated<\/em> to an inseparable body (not I, the soul, <em>independently<\/em> of body). Admitted, but still when the soul has experience of its own body, the experience of the body itself is similar to the cognition of a pot, for, \u2018I cognize the pot\u2019 is equivalent to \u2018I cognize the body\u2019; hence like the pot, does the body exactly stand in the place of <em>cognized<\/em> objects, external to a <em>cognizing<\/em> soul. Hence, as from a <em>cognized<\/em> pot, so from the <em>cognized<\/em> body also, the <em>cognizer<\/em> \u2014the <em>kshetra-j\u00f1a<\/em>,\u2014 is a distinct entity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To assert, however, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/indiscerpible#English\">indiscerptible<\/a> attributive character of the body to the soul, in accordance with the Law of Co-existence of Subject and Attribute (<em>s\u0101m\u0101n\u0101dhi-k\u0101ra\u1e47ya<\/em>) stands to reason in the same manner that a class \u2014like cattle, a generic term\u2014 is an inseparable attribute (or common term) of every particular individual, say a cow or bull, falling under that generic term <em>viz:<\/em> the class, cattle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inasmuch as the singularly unique nature of the cognizer (soul) precludes perceivability by any of the senses, the eye etc; and is only conceivable by the mind after the latter\u2019s subjection to the process of Yoga (or the practice of introspection developing the sense of intuition in the mind), the ignorant \u2014ignorant by reason of the mere <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/propinquity#Noun\">propinquity<\/a> of matter\u2014 misconceive that the mere bodily configuration is itself the cognizer (soul).
