This is (thus) briefly described\u2014this aggregate, this basis for the soul.'[2. Cp: <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/7-4-original\/\"><em>Bh: G\u012b:<\/em> VII-4<\/a>]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The great elements, Aha\u1e47k\u0101ra, Buddhi and Avyakta, are the germinal materials of Kshetra.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The great elements are (i) the Earth, (2) Water (3) Fire (4) Air, and (5) Space. <em>Aha\u1e47k\u0101ra<\/em> is the root of the elements. <em>Buddhi<\/em> is <em>Mah\u0101n<\/em> (or Mahat-tatva). <em>Avyakta<\/em> is <em>Prak\u1e5biti<\/em> or primordial matter-stuff of which all the foregoing are differentiations or mutations, (or several terms in an evolving series).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>The Senses Ten and One, and the Five Sensibles,<\/em> are the (material) principles which depend on <em>Kshetra<\/em>. The <em>Five Senses<\/em> of perception (or knowledge) are the auditory, tactual, visual, gustatory and olfactory, senses. The <em>Five Senses<\/em> (=organs) of action, are the vocal, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/prehensile\">prehensile<\/a>, the locomotive, the excretory and the generative organs; thus <em>Ten<\/em>. The <em>One<\/em> is the manas (=mind). <em>The Sensibles<\/em> are the five objects of the senses, <em>viz:<\/em> sound, touch, color (or form) taste and smell.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Longing, Aversion, Joy and Affliction:<\/em> These are said to be the products, or the modifications of <em>Kshetra<\/em>.[3. Cp: <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/13-19-original\/\"><em>Bh: G\u012b:<\/em> XIII-19<\/a>.] They are so said to be on account of their resulting from <em>Kshetra<\/em> by the union with it of soul, albeit, properly speaking, those are affections which pertain to soul as <em>its<\/em> characteristics (in its mundane state).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That Longing etc., are moods or affections of the (incorporeal) soul is shown further on as: \u2018Purusha is said to be the cause for being the experiences of joy and grief.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sangh\u0101ta\u015b-chetan\u0101dh\u1e5biti\u1e25,:\u2014 \u0101dh\u1e5bti\u1e25=adh\u0101ra\u1e25= the basis=the medium or vehicle or fundamental materials. <em>Sangh\u0101ta\u1e25<\/em>=the aggregate or the collocated ingredients (=body) to work with, for the intelligent principle, the soul, either by its aid to experience joy, grief etc., or by its aid to procure material happiness (on Earth, and elsewhere as in Svarga etc.)or to procure liberation (<em>apavarga<\/em>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thus <em>Kshetra<\/em> or the aggregate fashioned out of the root-matter (=<em>prak\u1e5biti<\/em>) down to earth-stuff, is the foundation for the senses; is the compound, giving birth to changes of temperament such as longings, aversions, joys and griefs; and the instrument for soul to experience pleasure, pain etc., with.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This <em>Kshetra<\/em> has thus now briefly \u2014with its variations and its moods (or affections)\u2014 been explained.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now the virtues or powers as will enable one to obtain soul-knowledge, \u2014(that the evolutes mentioned aforesaid) of <em>Kshetra<\/em>, can aid him to develope are now enumerated:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/13-7\">&gt;&gt;
