Chapter 14<\/a><\/p>\n << Chapter 14 verse 2<\/a><\/p>\n mama yOnir mahadhbrahma thasmin garbham dhadhAmyaham |<\/em> bhAratha – Oh descendant of bharatha clan! Oh descendant of bharatha clan!\u00a0 I sow the pregnancy (in the form of a collection of all chEthanas) in the great mUla prakruthi (primordial matter) which is called as brahmam, and is the the origin (for the whole world); by joining these two (matter and souls), the birth of all creatures (starting from brahmA down to grass) occur.<\/p>\n ‘The vast brahma (matter) is My womb, into which I sow the germ (soul). Thence comes, Bh\u0101rata! the birth of all beings.’<\/span><\/p>\n The inert or inanimate matter-stuff alluded to in: \u2018Earth, water, fire, air and space, manas, buddhi and aha\u1e47k\u0101ra, thus constitute My eightfold differentiated matter.\u2019 \u2018 But this is inferior\u2019 (Gi:<\/em> VII-4<\/a>,5<\/a>), is what is designated here by the term brahma<\/em>, (the vast or great, or infinitely extended) by reason of its being the primal cause of all the differentiations which emanate therefrom in the forms of Mahat (=buddhi), Aha\u1e47k\u0101ra etc. Passages of \u015arutis are also found here and there calling matter-stuff by this name, brahma<\/em>. As an allusion<\/a>, is the following:<\/span><\/p>\n \u2018Who is omniscient and all-knowing; Whose meditation is wisdom-full; Whence, this brahma (matter-stuff) and the Kosmos (annam<\/em>) of (manifested) names and forms, springs forth\u2019.[1. Mu\u1e47d: Up\u00b0:<\/em> II-2-7: \u2018Yas sarvaj\u00f1as etc.\u2019]<\/span><\/p>\n By the term garbha<\/em> (=germ=foetus=embryo), the seed en masse<\/em> of all animate<\/a> creatures is meant as alluded<\/a> to in:<\/span><\/p>\n \u2018Other than this, My superior Nature, the life-nature etc. (Gi:<\/em> VII-5).<\/span><\/p>\n Thus in the inanimate (or inert-natured womb-like vast matter-stuff I cast the seed of the aggregate of the animate principle (j\u012bva=soul).
