And <em>Tamas<\/em> (<em>lit:<\/em> darkness) is the diametrically opposed or completely reversed perception of what a thing actually is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Mohanam<\/em>=that which deludes men into obtuse knowledge = Tamas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This Tamas, being thus the root of <em>pram\u0101da<\/em>, <em>\u0101lasya<\/em>, and <em>nidr\u0101<\/em>, binds (one) fast, through these.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Pram\u0101da<\/em>=listlessness=the attention being diverted from a work on hand to some other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u0100lasya=sloth = inability to engage in any occupation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Nidr\u0101<\/em>=sleep. Owing to a disinclination on the part of the senses to function, sublation of all such activities ensue.
