{"id":5984,"date":"2017-10-04T22:32:35","date_gmt":"2017-10-04T22:32:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/?p=5984"},"modified":"2024-12-30T15:26:51","modified_gmt":"2024-12-30T15:26:51","slug":"14-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/14-19\/","title":{"rendered":"14.19 nAnyam guNEbhya: karthAram"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><small>SrI:\u00a0 SrImathE SatakOpAya nama:\u00a0 SrImathE rAmAnujAya nama:\u00a0 SrImath varavaramunayE nama:<\/small><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/14\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chapter 14<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/14-18\">&lt;&lt; Chapter 14 verse 18<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>SlOkam \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/14-19-original\/\">Original<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><em>nAnyam guNEbhya: karthAram yadhA dhrashtA\u2019nupaSyathi |<\/em><br \/>\n<em>guNEbhyaS cha param vEththi madhbhAvam sO\u2019dhigachchathi ||<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>word-by-word meaning<\/h3>\n<p>dhrashtA &#8211; one who is established in sathva guNam and has self-realisation<br \/>\nguNEbhya: anyam &#8211; his AthmA which is different from the qualities such as sathvam etc<br \/>\nkarthAram na anupaSyathi &#8211; when he does not consider as the doer<br \/>\nguNEbhya: param cha (yadhA) vEththi &#8211; when he considers the qualities (the doer) to be different from his AthmA (the non-doer), then<br \/>\nsa: &#8211; he<br \/>\nmadhbhAvam &#8211; my state<br \/>\nadhigachchathi &#8211; reaches<\/p>\n<h3>Simple Translation<\/h3>\n<p>When one who is established in sathva guNam and has self-realisation, does not consider the AthmA which is different from the qualities such as sathvam etc, as the doer, and when he considers the qualities (the doer) to be different from AthmA (the non-doer), then he reaches my state.<\/p>\n<h3>Rendering based on ALkoNdavilli gOvindhAchArya swAmy\u2019s English translation of gIthA bhAshyam<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;When the Seer cognizes no agent other than the qualities and knows what is beyond the qualities, then does he reach to My state.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thus by eating food of Satva-description, and performing works without regard to fruit but solely intended as worship to the Blessed Lord, the Rajas and Tamas qualities must be completely suppressed; and one should become thoroughly established in the pure Satva-quality.\u2014 When this Seer (conversant with the ways of the qualities) perceives that thus there is no actor or agent beyond the qualities themselves, in other words that the qualities themselves are the actors according to their respective natures; when the Seer also perceives that there is \u0101tma, the action-less, beyond the qualities, he reaches My state, or state like unto Mine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The purport is that \u0101tma <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/per_se#Adverb\">per se<\/a><\/em> is perfectly pure, that agency in performing various acts comes to it <em>derived<\/em> or as a <em>result of<\/em> the union with the qualities as may be predetermined by the past <em>Karmas<\/em>; that \u0101tma by itself is no actor, and is essentially of the nature of infinitely expanding intelligence. When \u0101tma-nature is thus realized, then is reached a state equal to My State.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is stated that after cognizing the actionless nature of \u0101tma, which is beyond or other than, the action-full qualities, the state of the Blessed Lord is gained.
