For yogic interpretation of this Symbol consult Uttara-G\u012bta: ch: II-15, 17. Also see Simon Magus, p: 78.] indestructible, of which the leaves are the Vedas. Whoso knows this knows the Vedas.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sams\u0101ra is emblematized as the Tree A\u015bvattha, with root above and branches below. Its <em>indestructible<\/em> or everlasting nature is declared in the \u015arutis thus:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;Having root above, and branches below, this A\u015bvattha is <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/primeval#Adjective\">primeval<\/a>.'[2. <em>Kath: Up:<\/em> VI-1. &#8216;Urdhvam\u016blo &amp;c.&#8217;]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;Whoso, now, knows this Tree, of root above and branches below,'[3. <em>Tait: \u0100ran<\/em>-I-11 (52). do.] etc., etc.,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Tree is said to have the root above, since the four-faced Brahm\u0101 (the Demiurge of the Brahm\u0101\u1e47\u1e0da, or <em>a<\/em> mundane egg) is seated above the seven[4. Bh\u016br, Bhuva\u1e25, Sva\u1e25, Maha\u1e25, Jana\u1e25, Tapa\u1e25, Satya.] worlds. It is said to have branches below since on earth below, are all its denizens, man, animals, beasts, worms, insects, moths, plants etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is said to be indestructible, (<em>avyayam<\/em>) or never-ending like a stream flowing for ever, or a Tree which cannot be <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/fell#Verb\">felled<\/a>, till the dawning of spiritual illumination which would wean one from (material) clingings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Chhand\u0101msi<\/em>= the \u015arutis=the Vedas, which are said to be the Tree\u2019s leaves, since the Tree of Samsara flourishes in proportion to the performance of \u015aruti-enjoined <em>k\u0101mya-karmas<\/em> (or works performed with a view to obtain material pleasures). Such as are declared in:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;The desirer of riches (prosperity) shall sacrifice a white (victim) for V\u0101yu(-deva).'[5. <em>Tait: Sam:<\/em> II-1-1: &#8220;V\u0101yavyam &amp;c.&#8221;]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;The desirer of offspring shall oblate to Indra-Agni in eleven cups (or dishes=<em>kap\u0101la<\/em>)[6. <em>Tait: Sam:<\/em> II-2-1. &#8220;Aindr\u0101gnam &amp;c.&#8221;] etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leaves are supposed to be instrumental in preserving trees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whoso has the knowledge of this aforesaid Tree is the knower of the Vedas, since the Vedas teach the way how to fell the Tree.
