Chapter 15<\/a><\/p>\n << Chapter 15 verse 14<\/a><\/p>\n sarvasya chAham hrudhi sannivishtO maththa: smruthir gyAnam apOhanam cha |<\/em> aham – I (everyone’s) I have entered the heart of all creatures as the AthmA and am residing there; memory,\u00a0knowledge to identify any entity and\u00a0forgetfulness originate from me; I am only known from all vEdhams; I am only the benefactor of the fruits of the ordainments of vEdham and the knower of vEdham.<\/p>\n ‘Verily am I enshrined in the hearts of all; from Me is memory, wisdom, and deprivation. And I, by all the Vedas, am to be known; I the Maker of the ends of the Vedas ; and I too am the Veda-knower.’<\/span><\/p>\n As their Soul, ruling by My will, I am seated in the hearts of the moon, fire, and all the sum of beings, \u2014the heart being the centre from which all intelligence (or consciousness =j\u00f1\u0101na<\/em>) radiates,\u2014 intelligence, the root of all impulses, positive (=active=prav\u1e5bitti<\/em>) and negative (=passive=niv\u1e5bitti<\/em>). So aver the \u015arutis. For example:<\/span><\/p>\n \u2018Penetrating the interior, the all-Soul directs all creatures\u2019[1. Tait: \u0100ra\u1e47:<\/em> III-11 (21).]. \u2018Who seated in earth… … … Who, seated in the soul, guides inside the soul\u2019[2. B\u1e5bi: Up:<\/em> V-7-3:22.]. \u2018Resembling the lotus flower-bud, with the point downward, is the heart etc\u2019[3. Tait: Up:\u00b0 N\u0101r\u0101:<\/em> II.]. \u2018Now, the heart-lotus, in this city of brahma (=body) is the abode etc\u2019[4. Chh: Up:<\/em> VIII-I-I.]<\/span><\/p>\n Also do Sm\u1e5bitis thus aver. For example:<\/span><\/p>\n \u2018Vish\u1e47u is the Judge of all the universe; He permeates it, and directs the minutiose of the minutest things.\u2019[5. Vish: Pur:<\/em> I-17-20.] \u2018He the Judge, the Effulgent King, Who is seated in your heart\u2019[6. Manu:<\/em> 12-112.] etc etc.<\/span><\/p>\n Hence, from Me comes to all, memory<\/em>, (=sm\u1e5biti)=the consciousness awakened of a past experience. Also from Me is wisdom (=j\u00f1\u0101na)=right knowledge of things accruing from sense (=perception), sign (=inference), Scriptural Authority (\u0101gama<\/em>) and meditation (=Yoga=intuitive or supersensuous perception).<\/span><\/p>\n Also from Me is deprivation (apohana<\/em>) of wisdom (or loss of consciousness); or apohanam<\/em> may mean \u016bhanam<\/em>. \u016bha<\/em>=conjecture, or that power of the mind which hits on a probability or a probable hypothesis by reasoning out that such a probability or hypothesis must work out in such and such a manner. This is knowledge which would contribute to the constructing or the establishing of a fact (in the future) from what was but a conjectural theory hitherto.<\/span><\/p>\n I am to be known by all the Vedas<\/em>: since it is the Vedas that assert that of fire, the Sun, the wind, the moon, Indra etc., I am the Soul, and the Inner Guide. The terms, deva, man etc., (which may occur in the Vedas) are in allusion to the individual souls (jiv\u0101tm\u0101s<\/em>, infilling those forms).<\/span><\/p>\n Ved-\u0101nta-k\u1e5bit<\/em>: Anta<\/em>=end=fruit, the fruit for performing such Veda-enjoined sacrifices as: \u2018Let sacrifice be made to Indra;\u2019 \u2018Let sacrifice be made to Varu\u1e47a\u2019 etc.<\/span><\/p>\n As in fruit do all these Vedas find their ending (or consummation), so end means fruit.<\/span><\/p>\n I am the Maker of the fruit<\/em>, i.e.<\/em>, the Granter or Bestower of the fruit promised in the Vedas. This fact it may be remembered, was already declared, in the Stanzas:\u2014 \u2018Whatsoever form a devotee wishes in faith to worship, that very faith in him do I render firm\u2019 (Gi:<\/em> VII-21<\/a>). \u2018(He) obtains his wishes thence<\/a> verily granted by My-self\u2019 (Gi:<\/em> VII-22<\/a>). \u2018I verily am the Enjoyer of all sacrifices, and the Sole Lord\u2019 (Gi:<\/em> IX-24<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n I am also the Veda-knower<\/em>: for I know the Veda that teaches about Myself, in that I am the Giver of the fruit (to all My creatures).
