IN the preceding three Lectures (XIII<\/a>–XIV<\/a>–XV<\/a>), the topics dealt with were:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The essential natures of matter and spirit (or soul) when separate, and when in conjunction;<\/li>\n
  2. That conjunction was the result of attachment to matter\u2019s qualities (gu\u1e47as), and that separation; was the result of non-attachment thereto;<\/li>\n
  3. That matter and spirit, \u2014in whatever condition they be,\u2014 both constitute Bhagav\u0101n\u2019s Glorious kosmos;<\/li>\n
  4. That Bhagav\u0101n, the Container (or Owner of such Glory, is distinct from the contained (or what is owned) viz:<\/em> that which is comprised of the matter-stuff (achit<\/em>) and the spirit-stuff (chit<\/em>) of the twofold division, \u2014the bound and the freed (souls),\u2014 inasmuch as He is possessed of such attributes and powers as (1) Infinity, (2) Pervasion, (3) Sustenance, and (4) Lordship, Paramount.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    In order now to strengthen conviction in all that has been said, adherence or submission to \u015a\u0101stra\u2019s authority is inculcated. This is done by instituting a comparison between the Divine (Daiva<\/em>)[1. Vide B\u1e5bi: Up:<\/em> III-3] and Non-divine (\u0100sura<\/em>)[2. Vide B\u1e5bi: Up:<\/em> III-3] natures, found in creation who respectively profess and disown allegiance to \u015a\u0101stra.[3. \u015a\u0101stra means laws, learning, and therefore spiritual laws or science embodied in the Vedas or \u015a\u1e5butis, etc.]<\/span><\/p>\n
