Know them to be of demon-nature.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Tapas<\/em> = Austerities etc. This term implies Sacrifices (<em>Yag\u0101s<\/em>) and other works practised.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Me too planted<\/em> = Means Me, the soul; or the soul who is of My nature and who dwells in the body.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whoso men, then, perform anti-\u015a\u0101stra Sacrifices etc., practise penances etc., at the loss of much energy, \u2014wedded to pretence, selfness (<em>aha\u1e47k\u0101ra<\/em>), lust etc., and torturing the elements lodged in the body, and also the j\u012bv\u0101tma (soul) lodged in the body\u2014, conclude them to be really the demons (asuras).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Asuras<\/em> are those Non-divine beings who act contrary to My Commands. Owing to this disposition of setting My laws at defiance, they do not derive the smallest particle of happiness, but as already declared in : \u2018They fall into the evil Naraka\u2019 (<em>Gi:<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/16-16-original\/\">XVI-16<\/a>),they fling themselves into <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/congeries#Noun\">congeries<\/a> of evils.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Resuming the subject of \u015a\u0101stra-bid Yaj\u00f1as etc., the subject that their natures differ according to the qualities which may influence them, is now enlarged upon. To begin with, it is said that the Satva and other qualities are (in their turn) the effect of food eaten. The three-fold nature of food therefore is first described, the \u015aruti itself procaiming to that effect as in passages such as:\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018O Saumya! the mind verily is made up of food.\u2019[1. <em>Chh: Up:<\/em> VI-5-4. \u2018Anna-mayam hi Soumya manah etc.\u2019]<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Food being pure, mind becomes pure, etc.\u2019[2.
