Chapter 17<\/a><\/p>\n << Chapter 17 Verse 19<\/a><\/p>\n dhAthavyam ithi yadh dhAnam dhIyathE\u2019nupakAriNE |<\/em> anupakAriNE – for the one who should not be expected to return the favour The charity which is performed at the apt place, at an auspicious time, to an apt recipient who should not be expected to return the favour and is performed only for the purpose of doing so, is said to be sAthvikam (in the mode of goodness).<\/p>\n ‘That is considered S\u0101tvika-gift, which thus: \u2018it ought<\/em> to be given,\u2019 is given, to one unable to return; (given) in place, in time, and to recipient, meet<\/a>.’<\/span><\/p>\n \u2018The gift ought<\/em> to be given,\u2019 as a duty, and not in expectation of a reward. The gift is to be given to one who can render nothing back; in due place, at due time, and to a proper recipient.
