Chapter 17<\/a><\/p>\n << Chapter 17 Verse 21<\/a><\/p>\n adhESakAlE yadh dhAnam apAthrEbhyaS cha dhIyathE |<\/em> adhESa kAlE – wrong place and time The charity which is performed at wrong place and time, to the wrong recipient, with disrespect and insult to the recipient, is said to thAmasa dhAnam (charity done in the mode of ignorance).<\/p>\n ‘That is considered T\u0101masa-gift which is given in wrong place, wrong time and to wrong recipients; (given) without honor, without ceremony.’<\/span><\/p>\n Gifts rendered in wrong (or unholy) places, (or wrong countries), wrong times (such as the Dead of the night), and to unworthy persons; also those given, without honor (asatk\u1e5bitam)<\/em> = devoid of such respects as washing the feet (of the worthy recipients)<\/em>, and without ceremony (avaj\u00f1\u0101tam)<\/em> = unceremoniously = with disdain; (such gifts) are considered R\u0101jasa (gifts).<\/span><\/p>\n So far, the distinctions of Vaidika (or Veda-bid) Yaj\u00f1a, Tapas and D\u0101na, characterized by Gu\u1e47as, Satva etc., have been shown.
