Chapter 18<\/a><\/p>\n << Chapter 18 Verse 22<\/a><\/p>\n niyatham sangarahitham arAgadhvEshatha: krutham |<\/em> yath karma – The karma (action) The karma which is apt (per the individual’s varNa and ASrama), which is done without attachment (such as “I am the doer”, “this is my karma”), is not done with desire for fame or hatred for condemnation and not done by one who is attached to the result,\u00a0is said to be sAthvika karma.<\/p>\n ‘That Act is called S\u0101tvika, which by a non-desirer for fruit, is done as duty, void of attachment and void of love and hate.’<\/span><\/p>\n Duty (niyatam<\/em>) = that which is prescribed as appropriate to ones var\u1e47a<\/em>[1. The four var\u1e47as<\/em> are Br\u0101hma\u1e47a, Kshatriya, Vai\u015bya and \u015a\u016bdra.] and \u0101\u015brama<\/em>[2.
