Chapter 18<\/a><\/p>\n << Chapter 18 Verse 33<\/a><\/p>\n Simple<\/a><\/p>\n yay\u0101 tu dharma-k\u0101m\u0101rth\u0101n ‘That is R\u0101jasa-Purpose, P\u0101rtha! by which, \u2014 from motives of attachment and fruit\u2014, Dharma, pleasures and wealth are maintained.’<\/span><\/p>\n That is R\u0101jasa-Purpose or Will by which a person, who, longing for fruit, and who, on account of much attachment, \u2014maintains, feeds or keeps alive such desires as virtue (dharma<\/em>), pleasures (k\u0101ma<\/em>), and wealth (artha<\/em>) is the paraphrase.<\/span><\/p>\n Dharma<\/em>, K\u0101ma<\/em> and Artha<\/em>[1. Four-fold aspirations of man, dharma<\/em> (meritorious work done here carrying with it the virtue of bringing future happiness, mundane or otherwise), artha<\/em> (riches and general prosperity), k\u0101ma<\/em> (enjoyments), moksha<\/em> (deliverance or Salvation).] figuratively stand for the means by which those ambitions are achieved, viz., the powers of mind, life, and the senses.<\/span><\/p>\n Fruit<\/em>, aimed at, is only the fruit of these, viz: Dharma, K\u0101ma and Artha<\/em> (not Moksha of Stanza 33<\/a><\/em>).<\/span><\/p>\n So, that Purpose or Will is called R\u0101jasa, which maintains or sustains the energies of the mind, life and the senses directing themselves to the achieval of the ends, viz: Dharma, K\u0101ma and Artha<\/em>.[2.
