Chapter 18<\/a><\/p>\n << Chapter 18 Verse 38<\/a><\/p>\n yadhagrE chAnubandhE cha sukham mOhanam Athmana: |<\/em> yath – The happiness which The happiness which causes bewilderment for the AthmA both in the beginning and subsequently too, and which is caused by sleep, lethargy and carelessness, is said to be thAmasa happiness.<\/p>\n ‘That is said to be T\u0101masa-Happiness, which enthrals [i.e., deludes] \u0101tma, both in the beginning and the end; and which springs from sleep, sloth<\/a> and listlessness.’<\/span><\/p>\n The beginning<\/em> is during experience, the end<\/em> is when the experience shows itself in results. Always it (this Happiness) enthrals [i.e., deludes] \u0101tma. Infatuation (moha<\/em>) means the obscuration of things from appearing in their true lights.<\/span><\/p>\n Sleep<\/em> etc., are causes of delusion even during the time of enjoyment. The delusive character of sleep is self-evident.<\/span><\/p>\n Sloth (\u0101lasya<\/em>) = the languidness<\/a> of sense-functions. When senses are dull, certainly dullness of intellect follows suite.<\/span><\/p>\n Heedlessness (pram\u0101da<\/em>) is inattention to work on hand. Here also the dullness of intellect is patent. Hence the delusive character of sloth and heedlessness as well, (like sleep).
