{"id":7055,"date":"2018-05-17T01:40:23","date_gmt":"2018-05-17T01:40:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/?p=7055"},"modified":"2025-05-30T14:49:49","modified_gmt":"2025-05-30T14:49:49","slug":"18-55","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/18-55\/","title":{"rendered":"18.55 bhakthyA mAm abhijAnAthi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><small>SrI:\u00a0 SrImathE SatakOpAya nama:\u00a0 SrImathE rAmAnujAya nama:\u00a0 SrImath varavaramunayE nama:<\/small><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chapter 18<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/18-54\">&lt;&lt; Chapter 18 Verse 54<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>SlOkam \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/18-55-original\/\">Original<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><em>bhakthyA mAm abhijAnAthi yAvAn yaS chAsmi thathvatha: |<\/em><br \/>\n<em> thathO mAm thathvathO gyAthvA viSathE thadhanantharam ||<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>word-by-word meaning<\/h3>\n<p>ya: &#8211; me who is of such nature and attitude<br \/>\nyAvAn cha asmi &#8211; me who is of such qualities and wealth<br \/>\nmAm &#8211; such me<br \/>\nbhakthyA &#8211; through (previously explained) parabhakthi<br \/>\nthathvatha: &#8211; truly<br \/>\nabhijAnAthi &#8211; knows;<br \/>\nmAm &#8211; me<br \/>\nthathvatha: gyAthvA &#8211; knowing truly<br \/>\nthadhanantharam &#8211; subsequently<br \/>\nthatha: &#8211; through\u00a0 paramabhakthi<br \/>\nmAm &#8211; me<br \/>\nviSathE &#8211; attains me fully<\/p>\n<h3>Simple Translation<\/h3>\n<p>He who truly knows through (previously explained) parabhakthi me, who is of such nature and attitude, such qualities and wealth, knowing me truly through that paramabhakthi, subsequently attains me fully.<\/p>\n<h3>Rendering based on ALkoNdavilli gOvindhAchArya swAmy\u2019s English translation of gIthA bhAshyam<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8216;By Love, does he full know, Who and What I am in truth; by it, after knowing Me in truth does he enter into Me.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Who I am<\/em> = Who I am in essence, and by essential attributes; <em>what I am<\/em> = What I am by manifested attributes and manifested glories of the Universe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By Bhakti or Love, (<em>i.e.,<\/em> the emotional part of man\u2019s nature -which constitutes the subjectivity of the heart- employed in seeking out God), of this kind, one finds Me out in My true-Self. This knowledge or finding Me out means the obtaining of the vision of Myself as I am in essence, in essential attributes, properties and glories (such as that which Arjuna saw, described in the Eleventh Lecture). After this Vision, is the \u2018entering\u2019 into Me, <em>i.e.,<\/em> joining Me, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/borne#Adjective\">borne<\/a> aloft by the same intense Love.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Tatah<\/em> = \u2018By it\u2019 means here <em>thereby<\/em> (not <em>there<\/em>) = by Bhakti, this constituting verily the Means by which the said \u2018entry\u2019 into Me, is in reality effected; this is testified to by what has been declared in the Stanza:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018But by Love, undivided, I am possible\u2019 (<em>Gi:<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/11-54-original\/\">XI-54<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fruition of such works as those of <em>nitya<\/em> and <em>naimittika<\/em>, \u2014performed with fruits therefor resigned, etc., performed as but modes of worshipping Paramapurusha\u2014, has now been told.
