Oh arjuna! vAsudhEva who controls everyone, remains in the heart (which is the origin for knowledge) of all beings which are in the body which is the machine (an effect of matter), makes those beings act according to the qualities viz sathvam, rajas, thamas, in this mAya (samsAram – material realm) which are filled with those qualities.<\/p>\n ‘\u012a\u015bvara, Arjuna! sits in the heart-region of all beings, borne<\/a> (as it were) on a machine, spinning them by His m\u0101y\u0101.'[1. Magic, Marvellous or Mysterious Power of the Almighty, vide., Commentary to VII-14<\/a>.]<\/span><\/p>\n \u012a\u015bvara<\/em> = The all-powerfull Ruling Lord, V\u0101sudeva.<\/span><\/p>\n H\u1e5bid-de\u015be<\/em> = The region or cavity of the heart, which is the source of all intelligence or consciousness, the basis of all active (prav\u1e5bitti<\/em>) and passive (niv\u1e5bitti<\/em>) energies of man.<\/span><\/p>\n The Lord has taken up His abode here. To do what? He Himself makes the machine, called the body, \u2014the body with limbs and senses, etc., moulded out of matter-stuff; the creatures are made to ride this machine and whirled round in it by His m\u0101y\u0101<\/em>, the maya that is full of the gu\u1e47as, satvam etc. The creatures are made to spin in this machine consistently with the gu\u1e47as (for which they are predisposedly born). This import was already expressed in the Stanzas: \u2018And I am infixed in the hearts of all; from Me is memory, knowledge and (its) forfeiture<\/a>\u2019 (Gi:<\/em> XV-15<\/a>). \u2018From Me does all operate\u2019 (Gi:<\/em> X-8<\/a>). \u015arutis also, as the following, proclaim likewise: \u2018Who, seated in \u0101tma etc.\u2019[2.
