yadyapyete na paśyanti
lobhopahata-cetasaḥ
kula-kṣaya-kṛtaṁ doṣaṁ
mitra-drohe ca pātakam

Hearts overrun with greed, it is thus they fail to perceive the danger entailed by extinction of their race, nor do they realize the treachery involved in the betrayal of friends.
