bhOkthA cha – being the enjoyer
prabhu cha – and the benefactor
mAm – (such) me
thE thu – those who are only engaged in pUrva bhAgam (ritualistic aspects)
na thathvEna abhijAnanthi – do not know truly (as the antharyAmi (indwelling super soul))
atha chyavanthi – and hence they miss out on the main benefits
Simple Translation
I am only the enjoyer and the benefactor of all yagyas. Those who are only engaged in pUrva bhAgam (ritualistic aspects), do not know me truly (as the antharyAmi (indwelling super soul)) and hence they miss out on the main benefits.
Rendering based on ALkoNdavilli gOvindhAchArya swAmy’s English translation of gIthA bhAshyam
‘Verily am I the Enjoyer of all sacrifices, and the sole Lord. But they know Me not rightfully. Hence do they fall.’
Prabhur-eva cha=I am the sole Lord, means: I everywhere am the Granter of fruit.
Stupendously strange it is, indeed, that by the self-same karma (sacrificial ceremonies etc)., engaged in (by men) with the simple difference of motive (with which it is performed) some merit poor fruit, and lose it again; but others come to possess the unlimited and transcendentally blissful fruit, —Paramātma Himself,— and not losing it for ever.
