You shall kill all of dhrONa, bhIshma, jadhratha, karNa and other similar warrior leaders who are (already) determined to be killed by me; don’t grieve (out of misplaced compassion and love thinking “How can I kill them?”); fight (without any doubt) in the battlefield and be victorious over your enemies.
Rendering based on ALkoNdavilli gOvindhAchArya swAmy’s English translation of gIthA bhAshyam
‘Smite you, Droṇa, Bhīshma, Jayadratha, Karṇa, and the other valiant heroes, already by Me smitten. Regret not. Fight. You shall in the contest be victor over your enemies.’
Already have Droṇa, Bhīshma, Karṇa etc., —delinquents— been chosen out for destruction. So, do you the work (of an instrument). Be not embarassed that you have to kill these teachers and relations of yours, and others, —who are attached to pleasures— for considerations of right and wrong, fear or friendship, relationship or compassion. Inasmuch as they have been already picked out for destruction, fight without hesitation. You shall overthrow them in the battle-field. Do not in the least imagine that you may be committing deeds of cruelty (etc). Sure, victory shall be yours.
