mṛtyuḥ sarva-haraś cāham
udbhavaś ca bhaviṣyatām
kīrtiḥ śrīr vāk ca nārīṇāṁ
smṛtir medhā dhṛtiḥ kṣamā

‘And the all-capturing Death, I am; and the Origin of all to come; of feminine (virtues) I am fame[4. In Saṃskṛit, all these terms are of feminine gender.], prosperity[5. In Saṃskṛit, all these terms are of feminine gender.], and speech[6. In Saṃskṛit, all these terms are of feminine gender.], memory[7. In Saṃskṛit, all these terms are of feminine gender.] and intellect[8. In Saṃskṛit, all these terms are of feminine gender.], courage[9. In Saṃskṛit, all these terms are of feminine gender.] and forbearance[10. In Saṃskṛit, all these terms are of feminine gender.].’

I am Death, the great Depriver of all life. And I am the act known as Birth of all that is going to be born. Of what is feminine (or known as feminine perfections, or the female Deities presiding over these qualities), I am Prosperity (Śrī), also Fame (Kīrti), also Speech (Vāk) also Memory (Smṛiti), also Intellect (Medhā), also courage (Dḥṛitih), also forbearance (Kshamā)[11.
