10.37 vṛṣṇīnāṁ vāsudevo ’smi (Original)

Chapter 10

Simple

vṛṣṇīnāṁ vāsudevo ’smi
pāṇḍavānāṁ dhanañ-jayaḥ
munīnām apy ahaṁ vyāsaḥ
kavīnām uśanā kaviḥ

‘Of the Vṛishṇis1 I am Vāsudeva; of the Pāndavas, Dhanañjaya2; of the Munīs also, I am Vyāsa; (and) of Sages, I am Uśanas3.’

The being the son of Vasudeva is the manifested expression of the Lord, Vāsudeva being the Lord direct.

Of the Pandavas, I am (2) Dhanañjaya=Arjuna.

Munis are those who in silent meditation realize truths. Of them I am Vyāsa.

Kavayaḥ are sages or savants.
