Simple

sama-duḥkha-sukhaḥ sva-sthaḥ
sama-loṣṭāśma-kāñcanaḥ
tulya-priyāpriyo dhīras
tulya-nindātma-saṁstutiḥ

‘Equal in grief and joy; self-centred[1. Editor’s note: This phrase has a negative meaning suggesting “selfish” in modern English usage based on identification with the body, but Sri Govindacharya explains in the purport following the next verse: “Svasthaḥ=Self-centred=he who is established in himself, i.e., from his love centred in ātma, his mind is not distracted with regard to external things, such as the events of rejoicing, the birth of a son etc., and events of grief, such as his death etc.,”]; looking on clod, stone and gold alike; the same in likes and dislikes; equal to blame and praise; wise;’

[Purport for this verse follows next verse.]
