bhagavAn said – Oh arjuna! This superior universal form of mine, which is a bundle of radiance, pervading the whole world, endless, the origin of everything (other than me) and which was never seen by anyone other than you, was revealed by me, who is with sathyasankalpa (ability to fulfil all vows), being very pleased, to you, who is my dear devotee.
Rendering based on ALkoNdavilli gOvindhAchArya swAmy’s English translation of gIthA bhAshyam
‘In graceful response, Arjuna! this Form of
Mine, transcendent, has by My will, to you been unveiled; (Form) Glorious, all-Souled, Infinite, and First, and Such as not seen before by other than you.’
Tejo-maya=Glorious=a mass of light or flood of brilliant light.
Viśvam=All-Soul, or pervading all things as Spirit.
Anantam=Endless=Infinite; meaning having neither beginning nor middle nor end.
Ādyam=First=He Who is Prior to all else besides Me.
You are My votary (bhakta). To you therefore has been revealed, out of grace, a Spectacle never before been witnessed by any other.
Ātma-yoga=Own free-will=Immutable or Infallible will.
It is now shown that by no means whatever, except by exclusive Bhakti, is it possible to realize Me as I am:
