Simple Translation
Oh son of kunthI! do not acquire cowardice because that does not befit your nature; Oh destroyer of enemies! arise, giving up the weakness in your mind.

‘Do not get unnerved, Pārtha[3. Arjuna …]! It does not become you. Weakness of heart is undignified. Hence, Parantapa[4. Epithetic for Arjuna, signifying ‘the foe-harasser’.]! Shake it off and rouse yourself up.’
Śri Bhagavān[1. Epithetic for God. (From intro to Chapter 1: Bhagavān is He Who has the 6 chief attributes, described earlier in this Poem. Vide Vishṇu Purāṇa VI-5, 79: ‘Jñana-śakti-balaiśvarya-vīrya-tejāmsy-aśeshataḥ‘, etc.); also read Vish: Pur: VI-73 to 79. ‘Bha‘ implies the Cherisher and Supporter of the Universe, ‘Ga‘ implies, the Leader, Impeller or Creator. ‘Bhaga‘ indicates the six properties, dominion, might, glory, splendour, wisdom and dispassion. ‘Va‘ implies that the Spirit dwells in all, and all dwells in It.] deprecates the ill-timed despondency of Arjuna, and counsels him to shake it off, and stand up for battle inasmuch as his is a sadness which is felt out of place; a sadness uncountenanced by wise men; a sadness antagonistic to higher-world interests; a sadness inglorious and ignoble; and a sadness which can only spring from a faint heart.
